GENEVA: The World Health Organization cautioned on Wednesday that COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus, is spreading out at a distressing speed in some parts of the northern hemisphere, a few months far from the winter influenza season.
” We are beginning to see stressing patterns in some nations,” Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO technical lead for COVID-19, stated during a social media webcast.
” We are seeing increases in hospitalisations, in extensive care systems, particularly in Spain, France, Montenegro, Ukraine and some states of the United States. That is worrying due to the fact that we have not seen the flu season yet.”
Van Kerkhove also stated hospitalisations of people aged 15-49 contaminated with COVID-19 were increasing in a number of countries. Dr. Mike Ryan, the WHO’s leading emergency situation professional, advised people at high danger for COVID-19 infections to get an influenza vaccination.
