Slack starts 2021 with a massive interruption
Slack decreased on the very first full work day of2021 The business stated Monday early morning “Consumers may have problem loading channels or linking to Slack at this time. Our group is investigating and we will follow up with more details as soon as we have it. We say sorry for any disturbance caused.”
Users started reporting issues around 10 AM ET, and the business published its very first status update about the issue at 10: 14 AM. As of 12: 29 PM ET, the service appeared to be slowly going back to typical for some users– we here at The Edge had the ability to shift back to Slack and resume work there at around 1: 30 PM ET, and we’ve had no interruptions given that.
In the beginning, Slack was reporting concerns with linking to the service and messaging. An update on its status page at 11: 20 AM ET updated the scenario to a full-blown failure, with all aspects of Slack– including log-ins, messaging, calls, and connections– showing as not available. “All hands are on deck on our end to even more investigate,” according to the upgrade page
Slack’s newest upgrade at 1: 51 PM ET recommends the company is still working to solve some remaining concerns:
For those consumers who are not able to access Slack (e.g. seeing a blank screen or error), please attempt reloading (CTRL/CMD R). Otherwise, please hold off on reloading, as this could avoid you from accessing Slack.
In addition, Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar aren’t working as anticipated, and some e-mail alerts (e.g. an alert of a new direct message in Slack) are failing to send.
An upgrade at 3: 12 PM ET suggested that the majority of the issues were resolved and the platform was functioning usually, however that some Google and Outlook calendar integrations and e-mail alerts were still not working as expected. “We’re working to resolve this problem, and we’re sorry for the difficulty,” the company said.
Slack hasn’t yet stated what may have triggered the outage, which lasted several hours.
Update, 11: 30 AM ET: Added that Slack has updated the issue to a full blackout of its services.
Update, 12: 35 PM ET: Added that the service may be returning for some users.
Update, 2: 14 PM ET: Added Slack’s latest update note, which we at The Verge don’t appear to be experiencing issues any longer.
Update 3: 32 PM ET: Added newest from Slack that many functions were returning to regular.
