MoEF panel wants extra member in specialist team

An expert appraisal committee of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Environment Modification (MoEF) on river valley jobs has actually recommended addition of one additional member dealing with ecological violations in the seven-member panel as directed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to evaluate the extent of ecological damage triggered with Kaleshwaram task works till clearance was given in 2017.
Accordingly, the professional committee would now have 8 members.
The EAC that satisfied on October 29 practically, used up the October 20 order of NGT Principal Bench on Kaleshwaram job for discussion together with other noted concerns. As per the NGT order, the expert committee is essentially tasked to look into the relief and rehab measures embraced with regard to works performed without environmental clearance from 2008 to 2017 and measures to be adopted even more required to undo the damage to possible extent.
One Md. Hayath Uddin moved the NGT in 2017 declaring that building activities of Kaleshwaram job were begun both in the forest and non-forest land without requisite clearances.
A team of NGT local bench in Chennai visited the task works from August 6 to 9 in 2017 and submitted a report to the ministry later in the month specifying that diversion of forestland was also included in the task and a proposal was submitted seeking forest clearance for 2,866 hectares land.
The MoEF accorded the environmental clearance to the project during the recently of December 2017 following due procedure.
