iFixit’s iPhone 12 mini teardown takes a look at how Apple fit so much into such a tiny device
Orders for the brand-new iPhone 12 mini have begun arriving for clients, and the group at iFixit did a two-part teardown– of both an EU and United States model– to find out how Apple managed to consist of 5G hardware and the typical iPhone elements into such a little gadget.
The very first thing you discover looking at the internal images is the smaller battery in the mini, which determines up to comparable iPhone designs surprisingly well, iFixit discovers, with 8.57 Wh.
” That’s more juice than the iPhone SE 2020’s 6.96 Wh, however understandably except the 10.78 Wh of the standard 12 it’s stacked on top of,” iFixit notes. It’s less than the 10.78 Wh of the iPhone 12 battery, however.
The Taptic Engine, speakers, and MagSafe ring are all included in the mini in smaller sized versions to save area. But Apple managed to fit the same-sized camera as its other iPhone models into the mini, which iFixit recommends may have come at the cost of battery life– something The Edge‘s Dieter Bohn come across in our iPhone mini evaluation
The mini cam has the exact same ƒ/ 1.6 wide-angle and ƒ/ 2.4 ultra wide-angle video cameras found in the iPhone 12, the teardown reveals.
Overall, iFixit discovered the iPhone 12 mini to be rather similar to its larger equivalents: “The iPhone 12 mini is a small phone with big aspirations. We’re amazed by how familiar the internals look compared to other iPhones this year, offered the differences in size among them.”
