The United Nations on Tuesday gotten in touch with politicians including United States President Donald Trump not to incite violence, as Washington gets ready for President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.
Days after pro-Trump fans smashed their way into the Capitol in a quote to reverse Biden’s election win, the UN was asking “politicians not to encourage their fans to commit violence or to prompt violence,” UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said.
He stated the message was “universal”, including for the US.
Democrats, who say Trump incited last week’s riots, are this week trying to get him removed from office through impeachment or other means.
Biden will be inaugurated in the United States capital January 20 and federal and regional authorities are rushing to avoid a repeat of recently’s lethal occasions that led to the deaths of five individuals.
According to US media reports, an internal FBI file warns that armed Trump fans plan to take part in demonstrations against last November’s election results in all 50 states between this weekend and January 20.
