CBDT releases e-portal for reporting tax evasion, ‘benami’ properties

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has actually introduced an e-portal for submitting problems about tax evasion, ‘benami’ residential or commercial properties and concealed assets overseas.
” Taking another action towards e-governance and encouraging involvement of residents as stakeholders in curbing tax evasion, the CBDT has actually released an automated dedicated e-portal on the e-filing site of the Department [Income-Tax] to receive and process complaints of tax evasion, foreign concealed assets along with problems concerning ‘benami’ properties,” it stated on Tuesday.
Individuals can now send a tax-evasion petition through a link on the website under the head “Submit grievance of tax evasion/undisclosed foreign property/’ benami’ home”.
” After an OTP-based validation procedure [mobile and/or email], the plaintiff can file grievances in respect of infractions of the Income-Tax Act, Black Cash (Undisclosed Foreign Assets and Earnings) Imposition of Tax Act and Prevention of Benami Deals Act (as amended) in three separate kinds designed for the purpose,” said the CBDT statement.
The Department will set aside a special number to each complaint. The plaintiff will be able to see the status on its site.
