Actor Sukumaran died in 1997 and his portrait was digitally painted into a family picture that was developed by setting up different snaps of the family, which were all sourced and after that digitally painted as a composite work by architecture trainee Mohammed Muzammil.
Speaking over phone from his home in Perinthalmanna, Malappuram, the 22- year-old says that since then, he has been flooded with demands to develop such photos. “Prithviraj has never ever made it a secret about just how much he misses his dad and he has actually always talked about his adoration for him. So I questioned how it would be if Sukumaran’s picture might be digitally contributed to a family portrait. It came out rather well and I more than happy that Prithvraj shared it on Instagram,” he says.
He discusses that he had actually taken inspiration for the image of Sukumaran from a photo of Mammootty and Sukumaran that was taken some time in the late eighties.

His current works, which he has actually shared on his Instagram page @_muzu, showcase his creative method of recreating famous film posters and snaps of his preferred actors. For instance, the popular duo of Naadodikaattu, starring Mohanlal and Sreenivasan, has actually been reworked with Nivin Pauly and Aju Varghese in the iconic functions of Dasan and Vijayan. “I always feel that amongst stars today, rushing Nivin makes the ideal foil for jocular and bumbling characters played so well by Aju sir,” thinks the artist.

The famous poster of Vadakkunokkiyantram with Sreenivasan and Parvathy has been recreated with Aju and his other half, Augustina. Influenced by the poster of upcoming film Saajan Bakery Considering That 1962, Muzammil developed a poster that positioned the bakeshop in a scene of 1962 and has stars Lena and Aju posturing in front of it.
Another ‘what if’ photo is that of Mohanlal and Ranjini in a referral to their functions in the hit film Chithram The story was a catastrophe but the artist takes a leap of creativity to imagine the film’s ending on a happy note, therefore unifying Kalyani and Vishnu, the lead pair played by Ranjani and Mohanlal.

Some of his digital paintings, such as portraits of actor Anusree Nair, Anumol, Unni Mukundan and so on, are masterpieces that showcase his skill and aesthetic appeals. Anusree is framed against brilliant sunflowers while a sedate and demure black-and-white study of Anumol is a picture of grace.
Bearing in mind of his drawing skills, Ashwini Kale, art director of Vineeth Sreenivsan’s new movie Hridayam, starring Pranav Mohanal and Kalyani Priyadarsan, called him to visualise the set styles of the film. Muzammil was doing his internship with an architecture firm in Kozhikode and he confesses that he was thrilled at the chance to deal with the stars. Nevertheless, the lockdown stopped the shooting of the film.
Muzammil asserts that his bread and butter will be architecture while painting and digital paintings will check out the artist in him.
